DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

Lawrence & Associates (L&A) has developed conventional designs as well as creative, cost-effective solutions to meet our clients needs.

Project: Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Fueling Facility Design
Client: Vallejo City Unified School District

Lawrence & Associates has provided project management and civil engineering design of a CNG facility for the Vallejo City Unified School District, Vallejo, California.

• 22-vehicle time-fill facility
• Dual 25-horsepower natural gas compressors
• Temperature compensation

The Vallejo Unified School District (VCUSD) received a grant to develop a fueling facility consistent with the management objectives of meeting 'clean vehicle' air-quality emissions. As a result, Lawrence & Associates was retained to design a CNG time-fill system with the ability to fill 22 vehicles simultaneously. The VCUSD fleet of clean vehicles will include 20 school buses and 6 other vehicles. Lawrence & Associates incorporated the best available technology at a cost the school district could afford to implement. Construction of the facility is scheduled to begin in June 2002.

Lawrence & Associates was also the consultant involved with removal of underground gasoline storage tanks (some of them leaking and requiring remediation of soil and groundwater) at seven schools within the district. For more information about L&A capabilities, view our Environmental Services and UST Services pages.

Project: Office & Shop Complex Design & Project Management
Client: Trinity County

L&A provided design & project management for the Office & Shop Complex, Juvenile Detention Facility, and sewer extension in Weaverville, CA. A related project included the design and construction of a solid waste transfer station and material recovery facility (MRF).

L&A brought the project to completion under budget and on time.

• 11,000 square-foot office/shop
complex
• 25-bed juvenile detention facility
• 2,000-foot sewer extension

Using our experience in project management and civil engineering, L&A provided the client with comprehensive plans that provided benefits to several Trinity County departments. Some of the highlights of our service include:

• Permitting, CEQA compliance,
design, and engineering services
during construction.
• Designs for the client including site
grading, layout, utilities, and structural
concrete and manufactured
metal buildings.
• The 2000-foot sewer extension
included boring under highways and
streams and provided benefits to the
Trinity County Office and Shop
Complex, the Juvenile Detention
Facility, and the adjacent airport.
• L&A coordinated excavation of clay for
a closure cap (see Solid Waste
Projects) to create the building pad
for the Juvenile Detention Facility.

Project: Yreka Assisted Living Facility
Client: Firstmark, Inc.

Lawrence & Associates provided civil engineering design for the development of a senior assisted living facility in Yreka, California.

• 54-resident facility
• Onsite storm-water detention
• Segmented retaining wall

L&A provided civil engineering design for the development of a 2.2 acre site as an assisted living facility. Design included grading, drainage, and utilities. City requirements specified that peak runoff not exceed pre-developed conditions. These were met using oversized storm-drain piping below grade to detain the peak flow. Because of the significant cross-slope, two segmented retaining walls were designed to provide sufficient area for the building pad. Construction of the facility was completed in Spring 2002.
